Six Nations Wooden Spoon Odds

The Cambridge wooden spoon concept used in Rugby Union origin is unknown, but most people reckon it was based on Cambridge graduates playing in the precursor to the Six Nations Championship.

The tradition first arose in Cambridge and rugby duly adopted and perpetuated the tradition of awarding the Wooden Spoon.

The Wooden Spoon is awarded to the team who finishes at the bottom of the table in the 6 Nations. No physical wooden spoon exists or has ever existed in the case of rugby.

Such is the stigma of the award that the ‘winners’ will sometimes claim that the Wooden Spoon should only be held by those who win no games at all, but this achievement is properly known as a whitewash.
